Programme Aim
The programme is specifically designed
to provide occupational safety and
health (OSH) studies for preparing
suitable candidates and safety
practitioners for positions of Safety
Officer in local context.
Persons upon
successfully completion of the programme
can well expect to be absorbed into a
wide range of industries that need their
knowledge and OSH skills.
Duration
1-year part time (168 contact hours)
Programme Structure and Contents
To be eligible for the Certificate of
Attainment, students shall satisfy all
the following conditions:
i) attendance of 70% or above of all
the individual subject classes; and
ii) successfully completion of all the
subjects below:

Occupational Health & Hygiene

- Safety
Inspection & Accident Analysis
- Risk
Management

Behavioural Safety
- Safety
Management
Medium of Instruction
English, supplemented by Cantonese. Course
materials and assessments are in
English.
Professional Recognition
The
‘Certificate of Attainment’ acquired
through successful completion of this programme
is recognised
by the government for the purpose of
registration with the Labour Department as
safety officer under the Factories and
Industrial Undertakings (Safety Officers
and Safety Supervisors) Regulations.
Graduates with relevant working
experience are also eligible to apply
for registration as the Technician
membership of the Institution of
Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH),
United Kingdom.
A top-up programme
is available for graduates who would
like to meet the academic requirements
for the Chartered membership of IOSH.
Facilities
Students may use PolyU's library
facilities and get authorised entry to
the programme's
e-learning website.
Financial
Assistance

This
is a reimbursable programme under the
Continuing Education Fund (CEF).
Eligible applicants will be reimbursed
up to 80% of the course fee or HK$10,000
whichever sum is the less, upon
successful completion of the programme.

Minimum Entrance Requirements
Diploma or
Higher Certificate in Safety / Health /
Environmental / Engineering / Science
disciplines; or equivalent.
Applicants who have reached the age of
25 by September 1 in the year of
admission are considered Mature
Applicants. Mature Applicants who do not
hold stipulated entrance qualifications
may be admitted on an individual and
exceptional basis.
Genuine interest and need in the field
with employer’s letter of support and
relevant safety experience are important
factors for consideration.
